Holy Family Parish School traces its roots back to the original Immaculate Conception School, founded in 1857 by a group of dedicated parishioners. The first “school” was located in the Church Rectory. By 1860, a stand-alone log structure was built, followed by a stone school in 1871. In 1922, a brick building replaced it, serving generations of students until the present facility was erected in 1957.

The Franciscan Sisters, who later founded St. Anthony’s Hospital, taught at the school from 1883 until 1891. The Ursuline Sisters arrived in 1893 and remained until 1993. For 100 years, these devoted women religious educated the children of Northern Jefferson County in both academics and the ways of Christ. Immaculate Conception Parish School became one of the oldest parochial schools in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

In 1987, facing growth at Immaculate Conception and declining enrollment at nearby St. David School, the Archdiocese facilitated one of its earliest school consolidations. The two schools united under a new name—Holy Child School. The consolidation marked the end of Arnold having two separate Catholic grade schools.

In 1988, Holy Child School opened its doors, with Kindergarten through Fourth Grade at the Immaculate Conception site and Fifth through Eighth Grade at St. David. Auxiliary classroom buildings supported both campuses, including two outbuildings at St. David and a mobile library at Immaculate Conception.

As enrollment shifted, so did grade placement. In 1991, Fifth Grade returned to the Immaculate Conception campus, and St. David became the Holy Child Middle School Campus. A new Parish Center was completed at Immaculate Conception in 2000, adding a library and music room. In 2004, a Preschool program was launched and housed in the former convent.

In 2007, St. John Lateran School in Imperial closed, merging into Holy Child School. At that time, Holy Child became sponsored by three parishes: Immaculate Conception, St. David, and St. John. That same year, the Middle School was moved back to the Immaculate Conception campus, where it remains today.

The Preschool outgrew its space in 2010 and was moved to the St. David facility. Though the program thrived, its separation from the K–8 program impacted retention. To better connect families, the Preschool returned to the Immaculate Conception campus after three years.

In January 2022, the Archdiocese of St. Louis announced the “All Things New” initiative, a comprehensive plan addressing changing demographics, a declining Catholic population, and the need to strengthen parish life. On August 1, 2023, the parishes of Immaculate Conception and St. David officially merged into one new parish community, located at the Immaculate Conception Campus.

After much discernment, the new parish was named Holy Family Catholic Parish. With this change, Holy Child School became part of one united parish. To reflect this identity, the school was officially renamed in 2024 as Holy Family Parish School.

Today, Holy Family Parish School, together with Holy Family Parish, continues the mission begun in 1857: forming children in faith, knowledge, and service.
